West Main Just Down The Road a Bit from Five of North Georgia’s Finest Wineries

Looking for fine wineries?  No need to travel to another state, Georgia has some of the finest wineries just down the road from West Main in Alpharetta.  It might surprise you to know that  commercial wine production began in Georgia in the early 1700s, but it wasn’t until the early 21st century when these wines made the international “Who’s Who” list of wines. Today, there are dozens of award-winning family-owned vineyards lining the back roads of North Georgia, with grapes ripe for the picking.

These vineyards offer tours, wine tastings, and glasses and bottles of wine that you can purchase to sample there or take home to enjoy later. Sit back, relax and sample great North Georgia wine surrounded by the beauty of the mountains any time of year.

Here are just a few of the award-winning wineries in North Georgia worth a trip.

Tiger Mountain Vineyards is a five-generation-old family farm producing more than 14 acres of vines and grapes that are lovingly turned into several wines on the Tiger Mountain label, including Malbec and Cabernet Franc wines. Call ahead to schedule a tasting and tour. Or, order wine online; they ship all year long.

Achieving Georgia’s first ever Gold medals at the prestigious San Francisco Chronicle and Los Angeles International Wine Competitions, Wolf Mountain Vineyards & Winery has set the bar for East Coast wine production. The antique wine library and cellar displays an array of 19th century French wine artifacts, which is a beautiful backdrop for wine tasting or enjoying a meal from their extensive menu. Winery tours are offered on Saturdays and Sundays.

After several years of growing grapes, Frogtown Cellars opened its tasting room to the public in 2015. The winery has 28 acres of vines, producing more than 15 different grapes, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Viognier. There are three locations to enjoy their unique award-winning wines, with tours offered from May through December.
